Dr. Anthony will present the statistics and epidemiology regarding the current opioid epidemic. The discussion will place the State of Oklahoma’s overdose numbers in perspective by providing information on the specific opioids involved (heroin, methadone, oxytocin, hydrocodone, fentanyl) as well other lethal abused substances including alcohol, methamphetamine, and alprazolam. Participants will review the unintended consequences discovered with the implementation of the 2016 CDC guidelines for Opioid Prescribing and discuss revisions and guidelines provided in 2022. Oklahoma statutes defining the appropriate management of Opioid Therapy will be outlined to ensure physician and advanced practice provider understanding of their role and responsibility to each patient.
