Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is one of the fastest growing criminal enterprises sparing no demographic, culture, or geographical location. It is a global humanitarian and public health crisis; one that is vastly underreported and identified. Its victims walk among us yet are hidden in plain sight. The intersection of human trafficking with healthcare is exponential. However, due to the lack of education and preparedness of healthcare professionals surrounding this topic, victims of human trafficking remain “unseen” in the clinical setting. This presentation will discuss the realities of human trafficking, articulate the elements of the crime, and describe the scope of the problem. The presenters will review vulnerabilities, diverse clinical presentations and red-flag findings, and ways to identify and respond to a potential victim of human trafficking.
