Michael Baxter, DO, FAAP
Michael A. Baxter, DO is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics, at the University of Oklahoma School of Community Medicine. He received his Doctorate of Osteopathy degree from Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2005 and completed his pediatric residency at the University of Oklahoma,Tulsa in 2008 followed by a Child Abuse Pediatric fellowship in 2010. He is the medical director of the child abuse pediatric team at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Tulsa and the program director for the University of Oklahoma, School of Community Medicine Child Abuse Pediatric Fellowship. Dr. Baxter is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics and is board certified in General Pediatrics and Child Abuse Pediatrics. Dr. Baxter has done researched and published on topics from Hope Theory to legal outcomes for child maltreatment including on the SCOTUS McGirt decision. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, is a member of the AAP Section on Child Abuse and Neglect, and serves on the Executive Committee for the Section on Child Death Review and Prevention. He is a Member of the Ray E. Helfer Society and serves as a member of the Executive Committee and the Co-Chair of the Wellness and Mental Health Committee. Dr. Baxter also has roles with the American Board of Pediatrics Sub-board of Child Abuse Pediatrics and the American Graduate Medical Education Council. Most importantly, Dr. Baxter is part of a therapy dog team along with Albus the Doodledore.Together they have visited pediatric medical clinics,The Saint Francis Children’s Hospital, events at the Schusterman Campus, children at shelters, and the Children’s Advocacy Center.
