Melissa is a dedicated healthcare professional with more than 10 years’ experience in healthcare risk management providing oversight of patient safety initiatives and professional liability within a large comprehensive academic health system.
She has experience leading risk, patient safety, and professional liability initiatives in a range of care settings — including both inpatient and outpatient facilities, a Level 1 trauma center, a National Cancer Institute designated cancer center, primary care, specialty care, ophthalmology, dental care, rehabilitation, and clinical research — spanning the continuum of patient populations.
Throughout her career, Melissa has embraced a passion for developing and executing patient safety and risk management philosophies and education. She also served as a patient safety officer, which provided her with the platform and opportunity to design and introduce various organizational initiatives, such as a tailored debrief program, the implementation of a root cause analysis (RCA) program following the RCA Squared methodology, and the development of curriculum for a dedicated patient experience, risk, and quality medical residency course to promote safe practices, just culture, risk mitigation, and professional liability concepts.
Melissa is a registered nurse with a clinical background in otorhinolaryngology, oncology, palliative care, and clinical research. She earned her bachelor of science in nursing degree and master’s degree in business administration from the University of Central Oklahoma. In addition, she holds the designation of certified professional in healthcare risk management (CPHRM).
