Catherine J. Hunter, MD, FAAP, FACS
Dr. Hunter is an Associate Professor of Pediatric Surgery at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital of the University of Oklahoma. She has a long-standing interest in chest wall deformities and was the co-director of the Chest Wall Program at the Ann &Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago at Northwestern University for 8 years, prior to joining OU as the Vice Chief and Program director of pediatric surgery in 2020. Her clinical interests include general neonatal and pediatric surgery, and surgical correction of chest wall deformities. She has had a long-standing interest in intestinal epithelial biology, and her research interests include the pathogenesis of necrotizing enterocolitis and abdominal sepsis. She has received several intra-and extra- mural grants and awards, including funding from the National Institutes of Health, the American Pediatric Surgical Association, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Hunter is a member of many academic societies (ACS, SIS, AWS, APSA), and serves on multiple national committees. Dr. Hunter benefited from the guidance of several excellent mentors during her training, and now enjoys the privilege of being a mentor to undergraduates, medical students, and residents.
