Ervin Yen, MD

Senator Ervin Yen represents Senate District 40, which includes Belle Isle, Putnam Heights, Glenbrook, Brookhaven, Nichols Hills and parts of Bethany, The Village, and Warr Acres.

Senator Yen was born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1954. After the Communists took over China and an uncle was put in labor camp and later died under mysterious circumstances, Yen’s parents, fearing an invasion of Taiwan, made the difficult decision to leave their families behind and come to America in pursuit of a better life.   At the age of 4, Dr. Yen immigrated to America and in 1960, moved into what is now Senate District 40 and has made his home here ever since.  Along with his parents and two siblings, he became a naturalized U.S. citizen at the age of 9.

Dr. Yen graduated from Putnam City High School in 1973, received his B.S. in Zoology from the University of Oklahoma, and then put himself through OU Medical School. After completing his residency, he began practicing as an anesthesiologist in 1984. He has worked primarily as a cardiac anesthesiologist at Saint Anthony Hospital and Integris Baptist Medical Center for more than 33 years.

Dr. Yen and his wife, Pam, have been happily married for over 31 years. They have five children and are active members of Christ the King Catholic Church. Yen is a past president of the Oklahoma Society of Anesthesiologists and past Chief of the Anesthesiology section at Saint Anthony Hospital. He has served as a member of the University of Oklahoma President’s Associates for 33 years.
