Nicole Jarvis is an ObGyn physician in private practice. She graduated from the University Of Oklahoma College Of Medicine in 1999. She then completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at The University of Florida at Shands Hospital. In 2003, she moved home to Norman and established her private practice. In 2011, at age 38 years old, Dr. Jarvis was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease. Since her diagnosis, she has become actively involved in the Parkinson’s community, and she strives to help herself and others to live positively with a diagnosis of PD. She serves on the Board of the Parkinson Foundation of Oklahoma, and started and leads the state’s first support group for YOPD patients. Dr. Jarvis is an active fundraiser for Team Fox, which is the grassroots fundraising branch of the Michael J. Fox Foundation. In January 2013, Dr. Jarvis founded her own organization, The Nicole Jarvis MD Parkinson’s Research Foundation. Her Foundation has donated over $1 million dollars to fund the vital, cutting edge research that is needed to find better treatments and ultimately a cure for Parkinson’s disease as well as over $75,000 to the Parkinson Foundation of Oklahoma to fund services for over 15,000 Parkinson’s patients here in Oklahoma, including education seminars, support groups, voice therapy, and exercise therapy. She strongly believes that clinical trial participation is essential to finding the cure for Parkinson’s disease and participates in several ongoing online clinical trials. In 2013, Dr. Jarvis gave a TED talk titled The Power of Connections and Redefining Purpose in the Face of Potential Devastation, where she discussed how joining Team Fox as well as becoming involved in her local Parkinson’s community has allowed her to make connections with new, amazing people and to use the inspiration gained from those connections to try to make her own contribution to finding ways to live well with PD and ultimately to find a cure.
